My Restaurant Rants or Raves
I’m from Brooklyn (born and raised). I went away to college and traveled adequately before settling down and having a family. Well I really NEVER settled down because I needed to travel a lot for work but let’s say I meant that in a “I got married/settled down” kind of way. Anyway, we moved to Southern Westchester to have a more suburban lifestyle for our growing family. I never liked the idea of leaving BK (abbreviation for Brooklyn) but I soon grew warm to it once I found a circle of other implants from BK, BX and NYC that were professional woman doing their SEX IN THE CITY thing doing the week and family quality time up in the burbs like myself everywhere in between. Well first thing on the agenda was finding good eating spots. Where are the restaurants up here???
One of my first scouts and still a favorite is Don Coqui in New Rochelle. It is Puerto Rican fare with some Caribbean notes and lots of great drinks. The atmospheres somewhat sexy but take heed and stick to the weekdays or early evenings on the weekend; it gets pretty crowded in the late evening Friday and Saturday and they like to pack the tables in too tightly to accommodate every walk-in. It’s a great date night or girl’s night out spot (in their sexy lounge area). It isn’t exactly a family dining place on weekends but maybe on a weekday it would be nice for a mommy & me or daddy & me date.
My favorites on the menu are the chicharrones de pollo, yucca fries, beef or shrimp empanadas and the paella! I’m getting hungry all over again talking about this! My favorite drink is their signature monster drink named after the restaurant. It is meant to be shared or expect to call a taxi! Other notable mentions in beverages are their sangria which comes stylish served in a mason jar. Its good eats. A Puerto Rican…. RAVE!
